They tried to make me go to rehab but I said ‘no, no, no’

reStart has opened the first video game and internet addition rehab center near Redmond. Perhaps their hoping to cure some Softies?

From their press release:

Video Game and Internet Addicts can now find solutions to the addictive behavior that devastates their marriages, careers, schooling, family life and health with the opening of reStart: Internet Addiction Recovery Program. The first of its kind in the US, reStart is a 45-day program located in Fall City, Washington, near Redmond (home of Microsoft) and Seattle.

But serious if you’re like this guy, get some help…

PS3 Slim and a Price Cut

Rumors of the Slim have been flying around since the PS3 launch but now finally the umpa-lumpas at Sony have turned our dreams into this…

Officially announced at Sony’s Gamescom press conference. The svelte new version boasts a 33% reduction of booty and 34% reduction in power slurpage due to the move down to 45nm fabrication.

But as Sony giveth the Slim, it taketh away the ability to install Linux. (At least until clever hackers figure out a way to circumvent this newly imposed limitation.)

Hence forth may the original be reffered to as: PS3 Phat

Oh yeah, they also dropped the price for both the Slim and the Phat to $299.

I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Pacman.

Blizzard Delays Star Craft 2

Sad Santa

Santa says, “Sorry kids Starcraft 2 won’t be in your stockings this year.”

ShackNews.com reports…

In the long battle between Blizzard’s standards and the calendar year, the calendar again came out the loser today with the announcement that the studio’s anticipated RTS sequel StarCraft II has been delayed into the first half of 2010.

Rockstar Doing A Who-Done-It?

Just a few weeks ago I was lamenting to a friend that there should be more gaming diversity, particularily where’s the mysteries? Well today I stumbled on the trailer for Rockstar Games up and coming L.A. Nore which has me salivating on the prospect of an L.A. Confidential Grand Theft Auto mash up.

Here’s the trailer…

But what had me lamenting was a remembrance of games past, Scoop, in this case. I can’t say I know anyone else that played this game. It’s way old DOS, 1988, CGA graphics. You play a reporter investigating a murder. What made the game unique though was that all the events at various locations were scheduled and progressed with or without you. You were able to travel from place to place looking for clues and talking to witnesses, etc. It was the kind of game you had to take notes while playing. If you missed important clues you would run out of time and lose. But by giving you the freedom to miss things and to have to chose what to attend and what to skip it felt less on rails and more real in its four color glory than the big budget HD Dolby surround games today. I’d love to see a new version.
